Two Ways to Draw Flowers

Kōwhai + Imagined Blooms and a Drawing Game for kids.

This past week I posted two short reels on Instagram that came from different kinds of looking. One was a quick study of kōwhai flowers drawn from life, the other a loose vase of flowers I made up while sipping a cup of tea. Both are digital sketches, and both came from the same habit: noticing, making a small mark, and following where colour and gesture lead.

When a Walk Becomes a Sketch

  • Meg Daniels

On my walk along the Wellington waterfront, I noticed how the light bounced between the buildings and the rhythm of people moving around me, so I pulled out my phone and recorded a quick video clip. Later, I used it as a reference for a digital sketch. I like having a reference to work from, even if it's just for a spark, or a starting point.
