I want to upgrade to Full Membership from the Free Lesson. How do I do that?

Awesome news! Follow these steps to upgrade to Full Membership:

What ages are the lessons aimed at?

The lessons are aimed at children between the ages of 8-15 years. Saying that, younger children and older teens and even adults will enjoy the lessons.
Go at your own individual pace and push yourself to the level you are comfortable with.

What is provided in each lesson?

Each Mini Course includes a detailed step-by-step video showing exactly how to complete the art work. Downloadable PDFs are available and any supporting download that is required to complete the lesson. Where applicable, useful internet links are provided in the Introductory Lesson so students can get a broader perspective of the artist or artwork involved.

What if I don’t have the same materials that are in the video?

You can use the art materials you already have, or similar. Substitutions are encouraged! Art is all about experimenting. That said, basic art resources (paper, paint, pencils, pens etc) are required to complete the lessons, all of which you will need to provide.

Are Art Tutorials good for teaching art?

That depends...art tutorials are not all equal. A good art tutorial does the following:
  • Provides real life relevance to the lesson so the student can create an artwork that has context.
  • Instructions should be clear, direct and unambiguous.
  • All stages of making the artwork should be shown.
  • Mistakes made by the instructor should not be edited out, rather, ways to correct mistakes should be included and celebrated.
  • All supporting material should be easily accessible, wether that is reference material, downloads or other examples.
  • They should be fun, but also challenging enough to push a student to surprise themselves.
  • Comprehension is usually better in online lessons as students are more able to focus uninterrupted.
  • The teacher is able to demonstrate every stage with accuracy, so that the student can rewatch as often as necessary.
  • Reference materials should be included wherever possible, so students realise artists use the world around them to create art.
Art with Meg strives to take the mystery out of art making, and to openly and plainly describe art techniques and skills to students in the most transparent and simple way possible.

Why do online art classes?

Face to face art classes are great! But online classes offer benefits that face to face classes do not.
  • You can do the classes from the comfort of your home.
  • No distractions.
  • Lessons can be repeated over and over.......
  • It's more affordable
  • Share the art experience within your family, spent time together being creative.
  • Nuture your Childs Creativity
  • Its flexible, you can do the classes at your own pace.
  • You watch and follow along with a professional artist, basically one-on-one, which takes out the guesswork.
  • No waiting for other students to catch up.
  • You get to pick any lesson, whatever takes your fancy, not just the one lesson on offer that day.

I’m a beginner!!! Can I do the lesson?

Yes!! The lessons are designed to be followed by beginners and more experienced artists alike. Once you have your supplies gathered, watch a bit of the video, pause, and make a start. You can pause, go back and re-watch as many times as you like.

My painting doesn't look like the example…..does that mean I did it wrong?

No!! Everyones painting will look different. And different is good! The important thing is to try something new, learn new skills and have fun!

Can I get feedback on my work?

Yes! I love to see your work!! Feedback is critical to growing creativity. You can ask questions directly on the chat button. You can also comment on the lessons and upload pictures of your work for feedback. Meg will answer personally as soon as she can.

I'm a member, do I get access to every lesson?

Yes! Members get access to every lesson, and all new lessons that get added to the website as long as you have a valid membership.

Have a question that's not on this list?

Send me a message with your question I'll answer in person and I'll update the list.

I have a lesson request!

If you have a request for a lesson, let me know! You can message me anytime on the little chat button!

Can I cancel my membership any time I choose?

Yes. You can cancel anytime via your Dashboard.

How long are the lessons?

Each one is different. Some are longer than others, and every person will approach the lesson at their own pace. Generally, as a rough guide, "Short and Sweet" lessons will take between 1/2 to 1 hour. "Longer Projects" will take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. Some lessons are completed in stages eg, a layer may need to dry before moving on to the next stage. Drying times are not included in the hours mentioned.

I'm a teacher/educator. Can my school/organisation get a bulk membership?

Yes! Contact me directly and I will arrange a quote to suit your school's situation and numbers.

The Importance of Art

Creating art is fun to do, and most kids enjoy drawing and painting to some extent. Very often this desire lessens as they grow older, either because they lose confidence or they just don't have the basic skills to make the art they want to.
As adults we can make sure that the creative, artistic fire stays alight and burning in our children hearts by providing access to simple art materials, and regular classes or courses with a trusted teacher.

The benefits are huge and can have lasting impacts on our children's futures.

Being involved in artistic pursuits:

  • Enhances creativity,
  • Developes problem solving skills
  • Gives another means of communicating
  • Developes fine motor skills
  • Raises Historical awareness
  • Improves focus and concentration
  • Builds confidence
  • Helps to develop cognitive skills
  • Art offers opportunities for self-expression.
